The hospitality of Territorians has made me feel at home.

Sanjaya Paneru

Master of Information Technology student with a focus on cyber security at CDU.

If you are thinking of studying in the Territory some of the benefits include smaller class sizes, super friendly lecturers and professors and countless opportunities for career growth.

The Territory has provided an abundance of opportunities for career growth.

Looking back, Sanjaya admits he was initially reluctant to move to the Territory but says his experience living in Darwin has completely changed his perspective. “The multicultural environment, the landscape, the opportunity for career growth and the hospitality of Territorians has made me feel at home”.

Originally from Nepal, Sanjaya Paneru moved to the Territory to complete a Master of Information Technology with a focus on cyber security at Charles Darwin University (CDU).

In the two years that Sanjaya has lived in Darwin he has made many friends and considers them to be more like family. Sighting lower expenses for students, career growth and job opportunities as well as multicultural events, festivals and numerous opportunities for adventure as some of the reasons he enjoys life in the Territory, Sanjaya says Darwin fulfils his natural inclination for adventure and desire to immerse himself and learn about other cultures.

Currently in his final semester Sanjaya is also heavily involved in his community, regularly taking on opportunities to volunteer, providing leadership to other international students and ambassador roles. In addition, he also works as a casual International Agreements Project Officer with CDU where he provides advice and support to students overseas, mentoring them on their journey to the Territory. “I love supporting other students by sharing my journey and helping them prepare for their move”. Sanjaya says his work is so important as he recalls the importance of having support from a Darwin local who he connected with him online just prior to moving to Darwin. He says this made his transition so much easier.

Sanjaya’s says that if you are a student looking to move to the Territory some of the benefits you will experience include the smaller class and lecture sizes at CDU, super friendly lecturers and professors and plenty of opportunities for career growth. He says the Territory has provided an abundance of opportunities to attend career expos, meet with industry experts for career growth and exposure to workplace environments including training and internships.

He adds, “if you are any of these:

  • an adventurer
  • an explorer
  • seeking career growth, or
  • love the look of the Territory lifestyle,

then you won’t regret moving here.”
