" Each rotation in the program exposed me to new challenges, helping me build a diverse skill set while making meaningful connections across teams."

The graduate program helped me find my place in policy and public service.

I applied for the NT Government graduate program because I wanted to gain real insight into policy development and see firsthand how decisions shape communities. Now, as a Policy Support Officer at the Office of Aboriginal Affairs, Strategic Partnerships, I get to be part of work that has a real impact.

The program gave me the opportunity to explore different areas within the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet, from policy research to service delivery and project management. Each rotation exposed me to new challenges, helping me build a diverse skill set while making meaningful connections across teams.

What I’ve enjoyed most is the variety of experiences. No two days are ever the same, and I’ve had the chance to work on projects that directly support communities across the Northern Territory. This experience has confirmed my passion for public service and given me the confidence to pursue a long-term career in government.

My advice for future applicants?

Let your individuality shine through. Even if you’re unsure whether this path is right for you, take the chance—you might surprise yourself. Coming from a research and private sector background, this was a big change for me, but the skills I’ve gained are invaluable and transferable across government and beyond.

The NT Government graduate program has been an incredible stepping stone, and I encourage anyone looking for a meaningful career to apply.
