Public hospitals
There are six public hospitals in the Northern Territory.

Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) is the Northern Territory’s main hospital and is a 360-bed public hospital that has a range of services and offers:
- Inpatient and day services
- Outpatient services
- Women's and children's services
- Paediatrics
- Pathology
- Allied health services
It houses the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre and the Alan Walker Cancer Care Centre.
Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH) is a 116-bed public hospital. The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
PRH offers the following services:
- Emergency care
- Rehabilitation
- Geriatric
- Day surgery
- Outpatient services
- Paediatrics
- Maternity
Alice Springs Hospital is the hospital that serves the Central Australia region. The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Alice Springs Hospital offers the following services:
- Emergency care
- Visiting specialists
- Maternity
- Allied health services
- Aboriginal liaison
Katherine Hospital is a 60-bed hospital that is a non-specialist public hospital. It services Katherine and the surrounding region and remote areas.
Katherine Hospital offers the following services:
- Emergency care
- Maternity
- Pathology
- General medical and surgical ward
- Children's ward
- Allied health services
Tennant Creek Hospital is a 20-bed hospital that serves the Barkly region.
It assesses, diagnoses and treats short-term illnesses and injuries.
A 16-chair renal unit also provides a dialysis service to the Barkly region.
Tennant Creek Hospital offers a variety of services including emergency care, allied health services, visiting specialists and community health services.
Gove District Hospital is in Nhulunbuy and services the East Arnhem region.
It is a 30-bed acute care facility providing medical, surgical, paediatric, respite and maternity services.
Patients from 15 remote communities are referred to the hospital for inpatient, outpatient and specialist care.
A district medical officer also services the region, advising patients to be admitted to or evacuated by air to Royal Darwin Hospital.
Darwin Private Hospital is a 122-bed hospital co-located with Royal Darwin Hospital. Some services include:
- Sleep study unit
- Rehabilitation services
- Day surgery unit
- Maternity
- Cardiac services
