Dhruv Patel
CDU Student currently studying Bachelor of Humanitarian Aid and Development.
“Darwin's warm tropical climate allows for year-round outdoor gatherings, sports, and events enhancing the overall university experience.”
Moving to Darwin has been a seamless and enriching experience.
Meet Dhruv Patel - a proud extrovert and an avid traveller with an exuberance for connecting with others. He thrives in immersing himself in community organisations and creating positive experiences wherever he goes.
If you ask Dhruv, Darwin ticks all the boxes with its vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, beautiful landscapes and diverse community he says Darwin offers “endless opportunities for outdoor adventure. I love the unique vibe here, characterized by its rich Indigenous heritage, stunning landscapes, and warm, welcoming people.”
Having been born and raised in India, where he travelled extensively and developed a love for exploration, Dhruv’s adventurous spirit has seen him travel to places such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal and Singapore before making his way to the Territory 18 months ago. Since making the move to Darwin to further his studies Dhruv has fallen in love with the unique cultural experiences and vibrant multicultural community lifestyle the Territory offers. He says he was able to “integrate effortlessly into Darwin’s vibrant community. Darwin is a small and easily accessible city, making it simple to connect with a diverse range of people and individuals.”
Dhruv is currently completing a Bachelor of Humanitarian Aid and Development at Charles Darwin University (CDU). “My student experience in Darwin has exceeded my expectations, offering both comfort and enjoyment. With various clubs and organisations CDU students can engage in extracurricular activities that align with their interests, promoting personal growth and skill development while making lasting memories in this unique city.”
“Darwin provides an enriching student life characterized by a vibrant multicultural community and numerous social activities. Students can enjoy local markets, cultural festivals, and outdoor adventures, fostering friendships and connections.”
Dhruv is also an active volunteer within his community and co-founded the CDU Indian Students Forum and serves as the Vice President for the forum. He is dedicated to supporting other international students and building a strong support network for his fellow students. Dhruv also volunteers for Kindness Shake, a community and student-led non-profit organisation supporting international students, where he enjoys being able to contribute to the community and spread positivity.
When asked what has made Dhruv stay in Darwin he says, “the warm tropical climate allows for year-round outdoor gatherings, sports, and events, enhancing the overall university experience.” He advises anyone moving to Darwin to “take the time to explore the beautiful places around Darwin. Don’t waste time sitting indoors, go out, and enjoy the wonderful sights and experiences that this vibrant city has to offer.”
If you are considering studying in the Territory Dhruv’s advice is “to embrace the unique cultural experiences and community spirit the region offers. Get involved in local events and activities, as this will not only enrich your educational journey but also help you build a strong network of friends and connections. Engage with fellow students, faculty, and the local community; volunteering can be a great way to give back and immerse yourself in the culture.”
Every day in Darwin brings new experiences that I truly cherish!
