Tips from Territorians
Knowing what to pack or purchase for our great Territory lifestyle might surprise you. We’ve created a list of items recommended by Territorians for new Territorians.
Natural fibre clothing and a broad brimmed hat - Natural fibres are cooler and quick dry sporting attire is a great addition.
Some warmer clothes – the dry season can be cool in Darwin and call for a light sweater or jacket and it can be downright freezing in Alice Springs – but hey that is coming from a Territorian for those coming up from south it might just be cold.
A number of venue’s are also airconditioned and sometimes the temperature can be set quite low, plus you will need warmer clothes if you plan on camping inland during the dry where the temperature can drop quite a bit at night.
Stubby cooler and/or double walled cooler – to keep the drinks cold longer
Bug Spray and/or Themacell + Sunscreen - use a deet based repellent to keep mozzies and midgies at bay or you can purchase a Thermacell which keeps them away at a radius around the cell, different sizes are available.
Large strong Umbrella - we have terrific storms and wind.
Thongs, Crocs, sandals and/or wet season Birkenstocks (plastic) - cork Birkenstocks do not fare as well in the wet and be aware thongs can be slippery on some smooth surfaces when they are wet.
Bamboo Sheets – have been recommended by Territorians.
Passport – Darwin is the gateway to Asia with Bali just 2 hours from Darwin.
Things to note when you have moved
Leather is loved by mould in the wet season as are walls, doors etc. Keep your fans on low when it's raining and the windows open, find a way to keep any leather shoes, bags or belts protected - possibly by storing close to damp rid.
