Natasha wanted to become a School Counsellor to engage with the community in a meaningful way. The remote Northern Territory is now home to her, she feels drawn to expand her social work skills and practice with a therapeutic focus.

“I have learned so much and am continually learning from this job. I gained a deeper understanding of the education system, and the incredible role schools play in the lives of young people and families.”

What truly makes this job worthwhile for Natasha are the relationships she has been able to build with students, teachers, and the wider school community. Every interaction enriches her understanding, fueling her passion and motivation.

Living in the Territory has encouraged Natasha to step out of her comfort zone, even joining a local women’s AFL team—a sport she had never played before. This adventurous spirit is also reflected in her excitement about unique ‘only in the NT’ experiences, such as seeing a local family bring a huge python into school to show students and staff.

Natasha genuinely enjoys her work, and each day brings new opportunities to learn and grow together, having wellbeing in the forefront of their work.

“Being a part of the Student Wellbeing, Inclusion, Programs and Services (SWIPS) team in Education and Training, our work is centred on wellbeing. We are proactive in touching base and checking in with one another, regardless of where we are located geographically, and we acknowledge the importance of connection, and prioritise this time together as a team.”
