Ushani Loku Arumage
Migration Support Programs Officer
"I encourage students and migrants to consider moving to the Northern Territory for more job opportunities and a great work-life balance."
Towns like Darwin and Alice Springs have everything you need, including shopping centres, healthcare, and schools.
Meet Ushani Loku Arumage, Migration Support Programs Officer at Red Cross and coordinator of the Connected Women program in Katherine.
"The Territory provides a platform where I can actively contribute to the well-being and successful integration of migrants, and it's truly rewarding to see the positive impact on their lives within this diverse and inclusive community- It's a unique place that has given me a fresh perspective on life. The community here is multicultural and welcoming, with exceptionally helpful people."
Ushani is very passionate about her work, explaining "I have personally experienced the challenges they face as a migrant myself. Particularly, migrant women often encounter additional barriers, and it drives me to make a positive difference in their lives. Witnessing their growth, self-sufficiency, and the establishment of meaningful connections within the community brings immense satisfaction. Knowing that I can contribute to their journey, helping them feel valued and supported, is what motivates me every day."
A highlight of being in The Territory she says is, "The collaboration among multicultural groups, the vibrant celebration of festivals, and the commitment to gender equality are notable features in Katherine. Moreover, the locals' willingness to support migrants in their journey to stay, live, and work in Katherine is truly special. These aspects contribute to the uniqueness and inclusivity of the community, making Katherine an exceptional place to be."
"Before moving to the Northern Territory, I thought it would be isolated and lacking in amenities. However, I quickly realized that it's not true. Towns like Darwin and Alice Springs have everything you need, including shopping centres, healthcare, and schools. The NT also has a vibrant cultural scene with festivals. So, my misconception was cleared up, and I now see the Territory as a dynamic and welcoming place."
"I encourage students and migrants to consider moving to the Northern Territory for more job opportunities and a great work-life balance. The NT offers diverse employment options and a beautiful natural environment to explore. It's a place where you can thrive professionally and enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle. Come and experience the best of both worlds in the NT!"
