Kaylee Tran

Financial Analyst, Department of Treasury and Finance

The Graduate program was not just about learning the job – it’s about building a sense of belonging, contributing to a positive workplace culture, and growing both personally and professionally.

Working in the Territory allows me to connect with like-minded people.

Kaylee Tran joined the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) through the 2024 Graduate program, and currently works as a Financial Analyst. Originally from Vietnam, Kaylee has enjoyed her life in the Top End for the past 8 years, where she found unique opportunities and a strong sense of community. After having lived, studied and worked here for years, to her, the Territory is not just where she built her career, but also her home.

“I moved to the Territory in 2018 to complete my high school education and later pursued my university degree here.”

“Moving to the NT was both exciting and challenging. Coming from a different cultural background, I had to adapt to a new environment, but the Territory’s welcoming community and laid-back lifestyle made the transition much easier.”

Kaylee applied for the DTF Graduate program last year, and she found her experience has been incredibly rewarding and transformative.

“After completing my studies, I was eager to contribute to the Territory’s development and make a meaningful impact in the public sector. That’s what lead me to apply for the DTF Graduate program – an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and in-depth understanding of the Territory’s financial landscape.”

“The program provided me with exposure to critical areas of financial management, including intergovernmental relations, financial reporting, and royalty and assurance. Through each rotation, I have expanded my knowledge and skills, allowing me to see how finance plays an important role in shaping the Territory’s economy.”

Beyond work, the DTF graduate program provides opportunities for mentorship and development, fostering a supportive and dynamic environment.

“Not only was I mentored by experienced professionals but I also took the initiative to organise meaningful activities with other DTF graduates. These activities help foster a welcoming and inclusive work environment, strengthening connections within the department.”

For Kaylee, The Graduation program has been an invaluable stepping stone. It provides her with the foundation and confidence to build a career in the public sector.

For those thinking about applying to the graduates program, Kaylee advises to “embrace every opportunity to learn and grow”.

“The NT Government values innovation, adaptability and fresh perspectives, so don’t be afraid to ask questions, take on challenges and step outside your comfort zone.”

“This program is more than just a job – it’s a chance to gain invaluable insights into government operations and contribute to projects that impact the Territory’s future. Show your enthusiasm, be open to new experiences and, most importantly, believe in your ability to make a difference.”
