Sidhika Srinivasan moved from Sydney to Alice Springs in April 2024 with her sister, who had accepted a one-year placement at Alice Springs Hospital. She found a job locally and initially planned to stay for just one year, but when the time came, she was not ready to leave.
“I fell in love with Alice Springs and wanted to do more meaningful work in the Territory, so I changed jobs and joined the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure.”
Sidhika now works as a Project Manager in Built Infrastructure Project Delivery, where she manages around 20 projects across different stages, from initial scoping and design through to construction.
Her work includes preparing tender documents, reviewing designs provided by consultants and visiting project sites in Alice Springs and remote communities such as Papunya and Willowra.
“It can get busy at times, but I enjoy having a range of projects to work on across areas such as renewable energy, construction and security. I also enjoy the opportunities to travel to sites, visit new places and engage with communities.”
For Sidhika, working in the public sector provides an opportunity to contribute to projects that have a positive impact.
“It’s rewarding to understand the projects happening across the public sector and find the best way they can benefit the community. I enjoy doing meaningful work and helping people through my job.”
The variety of her role has also supported her professional development. Through design reviews, consultant engagement, tender preparation and site visits, Sidhika continues to build her technical knowledge and project management experience. She has also completed internal training in procurement, contract management and tender assessment.
Her team brings together people with backgrounds in engineering, architecture and trades, giving her access to a broad range of knowledge and experience.
“My team is very helpful and supportive when I have questions, need someone to join me on a site visit or want a second review of project drawings. It’s nice to be surrounded by such intelligent and hardworking people.”
Outside work, Alice Springs has given Sidhika the time and space to rediscover interests that had been difficult to fit into her life in Sydney.

She now spends her free time exploring some of Central Australia’s most beautiful and rugged landscapes, often only an hour or two from home. She has also joined the town band and taken up running, swimming, martial arts, and creative hobbies such as painting.
“These are all things I used to do as a child but didn’t have time for once I started studying and working. It has been great to get back into them.”
The move has also helped Sidhika learn more about herself, build strong friendships and become part of the local community.
“Alice Springs is a very special place and gives you opportunities you wouldn’t get elsewhere. I’ve made a lot of new friends who I can spend time with and learn from, which I wouldn’t have had the time to do if I still lived in a big city. I feel really lucky to be here.”
