Move to the Territory
If the one-hour work commute and the unpredictable gloomy winters are starting to get old, the Northern Territory might be calling your name.
Forget the stereotypes
Sometimes we get excluded as a viable place to live by Aussies from the southern states. Too many stereotypes and misconceptions that contribute to misinformation, or maybe it’s the distance that caused the confusion - but don’t write it off just yet. It is the ULTIMATE location to connect with Australian culture and experience the ideal work life balance, plus all the other perks that come with being a Territorian.
Uncharted territory
Whether you’re after a tropical weather change or something a little more like what you’re used to, the NT has plenty of options. Alice Springs offers all four seasons, while the other regions have a wet and dry season. Expect spectacular monsoonal rains and warm weather in the wet, and cooler nights and sunny days in the dry. From stunning beach locations in Darwin and East Arnhem Land, to iconic national parks surrounding Katherine and Alice Springs, its hard to run out of ways to spend your weekends living in the Territory. Explore the regions and find your new stomping ground.
Stuck in second gear?
Down in the southern states, there may be many factors preventing you from having a healthy work life balance. Maybe it’s the long commute to work, meaning no time to spend in daylight during winter, or coming home to bored children with cabin fever. Stuck in routine, stuck in your career, or just stuck in the same state. That is where the NT is different – better, some may say. Cut your commute to less than half the time (at least!) and no daylight escaping you at 5pm. It gives you time to spend your weeknights outdoors with your kids, joining a run club, or just enjoying an iconic NT sunset. Get out of the state you’re in, explore a new career pathway and check out just some of the things you can do after work on a weekday in Darwin.
Spend your time off the right way
Your weekend schedule after moving to the NT may also look a little different than watching the kids play sport in 12 degrees or spending excessive sums on a trip away. Expect anything from camping and fishing to markets and festivals, and maybe even a cheeky direct flight to Southeast Asia – seriously, its closer than Melbourne to Darwin. Whether you want to chase a waterfall or celebrate Aboriginal culture at a festival, the Territory will hook you in and keep you entertained. Find out more about our events and outdoor activities.
Territory tips
Although we are known for our warm summer weather, it does get cool in the dry season in the Top End, and quite chilly in Alice Springs on winter nights. So, don’t forget to bring some warmer clothes. Although it can cool down at night, you’ll definitely need some sunscreen – the sun doesn’t disappear for long! With the sun being quite an iconic force here in the Territory all year round, make sure to pack a picnic rug to sit and enjoy the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, you won’t regret it.
