Your trivia night cheat sheet for the Top End

Split up the work week with something different and test your trivia skills.

Who won Triple J’s Hottest 100 in 2021? Do echidnas have teeth? Where in Australia will you find the Big Boxing Crocodile? If you know the answer to any of these questions, you might be in with a chance to win your first trivia night in the NT.

With things like the weather and the size of the Northern Territory taking most of the credit for the laidback lifestyle, often the weekly events are overlooked. There are so many ways to split up the work week with something different and catch up with your mates. With multiple venues offering trivia nights, often with a meal special, you are bound to find a weeknight and venue to suit your needs (and trivia skills), while also possibly winning a cheeky prize.

Tuesday

The iconic Shags in Darwin City offers a fun trivia night on Tuesday’s, along with a rump special. The prize for this one is a food and drink voucher to spend next time you visit Shags, so use it to keep your winning trivia streak or for a cheeky beverage after work!

Also located in Darwin City and accompanied by a steak special is the quiz night at Sweethearts. This one is pretty popular, so be sure to book in. With over $300 in prizes, it will be worth it for a Tuesday night.

Fiddler’s Green trivia night is the perfect spot if you’re looking for an earlier start. Hosted by Hot Toddy, the 6.30pm start paired with Fiddler’s Tuesday steak special makes for a perfect weeknight out while still getting your 8 hours.

If you’re looking for trivia in Palmerston City, Flynn’s is ideal for a Tuesday night. Hosted by Sarah from MIX 104.9, Flynn’s has burger and steak sandwich special to help fuel you on in your fight for a prize.

Wednesday

Wednesdays are a busy night for quiz lovers in the NT. Join Dave the trivia master to showcase your skills at the Beachfront Hotel. Located on the beach in Rapid Creek and boasting a cash prize, the Beachy trivia is a great spot to hang with your mates and argue over what year Jurassic Park was released.

You’ll find Breeze’s Bar and Bistro nestled in Muirhead. With a kid’s playground, Breeze’s is a great place to get your competitive side out in a family friendly environment. Wednesday’s also offer a steak night, making it a perfect night out for a meal and brain training.

Six Tanks Brewing Co. in Darwin City is known for its karaoke nights on Friday’s, but if you are after a cheap burger and prize, Wednesday trivia is for you. Enjoy the burger and beer deal and compete for the prizes with other Territorians.

Thursday

As the weekend draws closer, the trivia turns up in Parap. Kept private by its leafy surrounds, the Darwin Railway Club is a unique venue to spend your Thursday night in. The Railway menu has everything from toasties, woodfire pizzas and your pub classics to munch on while battling in The Rails Quiz, which starts at 7pm.

Just around the corner is the Parap Tavern, which also hosts trivia on a Thursday at 7pm. Enjoy a pub meal at the local’s favourite tavern while you argue over which celebrity is taller or who won Eurovision this year.

Down at the Waterfront Precinct, The Precinct Hotel takes trivia to the next level. Along with their Thursday trivia, they also hold special trivia nights every so often, with themes like Harry Potter or Irish Takeover, and even have prizes for costumes! Their weekly trivia is held on Schnitty Night and comes with good cash prizes.

Sunday

New to the mix in Darwin is Darlings, which is now hosting The Weekly Fifty quiz night. Starting earlier at 5pm with happy hour drinks and food deals until 6.30pm, Darlings is the perfect place to spend your Sunday arvo while dabbling in a bit of trivia.
