"The Early Careers Program provided the experience, support and opportunities that helped me grow professionally and contribute to meaningful outcomes across government."

One of the best parts of the job isn’t just the work itself, it’s the people.

Yash Kimmatkar was doing his Master of Business Analytics at the University of Adelaide when he discovered the Early Careers Graduate Program and was immediately drawn to its rotational structure.

“The rotational structure stood out to me because it offered the opportunity to work across different business areas, gain diverse experience, and explore potential career pathways before deciding where I wanted to specialise.”

The program gave Yash the chance to rotate through Information Services, Digital Solutions and Workforce Insights, working on a range of projects with different teams across government. Along the way, he developed technical, analytical and stakeholder engagement skills while contributing to reporting and dashboard projects that supported important business decisions.

For Yash, one of the biggest takeaways was the confidence he gained.

"The most valuable thing I gained was confidence in my abilities, along with stronger stakeholder management and problem-solving skills. The program also gave me the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and build connections across government that continue to support my professional growth”

He also credits the support he received throughout the program as a key part of his journey. Regular check-ins with the Early Careers Coordinator, supervisors and mentors meant he always had guidance, feedback and encouragement while making the most of each rotation.

Today, Yash works as a Business Analyst in DCDD’s Workforce Insights team, developing workforce reporting and dashboard solutions that help inform workforce planning and decision-making across government.

For Yash, one of the best parts of the job isn’t just the work itself, it’s the people.

“The people, the supportive culture and the variety of opportunities available. Knowing that my work contributes to better outcomes makes it especially rewarding."

Looking back, Yash says the Early Careers Graduate Program gave him the experience, support and opportunities to grow professionally while making a meaningful contribution from the very beginning.

His advice for future graduates is simple.

"Take every opportunity that comes your way. The Early Careers Program provided the experience, support and opportunities that helped me grow professionally and contribute to meaningful outcomes across government."
