Prakash Kafle moved to the Northern Territory for the opportunity to take on a new role, grow his career and experience remote communities more closely.
Originally from Nepal, Prakash studied a Masters of Engineering Project Management in Adelaide before joining the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure as a Senior Project Officer in Transport and Civil Infrastructure.
Based in Tennant Creek, his work has given him the chance to contribute to projects that make a real difference, while gaining firsthand insight into the unique challenges and opportunities of delivering infrastructure in remote locations.
“It was a great chance to experience and understand remote communities more closely.”
Prakash’s role involves managing and coordinating transport infrastructure projects across the Barkly Region. A typical day can include working with contractors and stakeholders, reviewing project progress, conducting site visits and supporting project reporting and governance requirements.
For Prakash, one of the most interesting parts of the role is the level of engagement and relationship-building involved. Delivering infrastructure in remote locations means working closely with people, understanding different needs and helping projects move forward safely, on time and within budget.

What has kept Prakash at DLI is the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that have a tangible impact on remote communities. The role offers a balance of professional growth, technical challenges, supportive colleagues and the chance to visit unique environments across the region.
Since joining DLI, Prakash has broadened his skills, taken on new responsibilities and gained valuable experience in project delivery, governance and project management.

Moving from a city to a regional town was a big change, but Prakash says the welcome he received in Tennant Creek made the transition much easier. After arriving on an Airnorth flight, he came straight to the office and found his colleagues friendly and supportive.
Over time, the strong sense of community helped him settle in and feel at home.
“The warm reception from the team made the transition much easier.”
Prakash describes his team as supportive, collaborative and dedicated. As a small team, they look after each other by staying connected, maintaining open communication, working through challenges together and celebrating successes.
For anyone considering a role with DLI, Prakash says it is an opportunity worth taking.
