Shortlisted applicants will be emailed details on when, where and how to book your place for the fitness test.
Interstate applicants have the option to undertake the testing via a locally based qualified fitness instructor.
It is important that applicants prepare for the fitness test in advance, as a second opportunity may not be provided should the applicant fail to meet the required standards.
The assessment
The applicant must complete all steps continuously within a five-minute period.
Step 1
Continuous 500m run with step-ups
- The applicant runs a continuous five laps of a 100m course, with a station of step-ups after every 100m lap.
- At each 100m station, the applicant must perform 10 step-ups on a step.
- The applicant is required to step up leading with one foot for 10 steps up and down (5 steps left leading foot and 5 right leading foot).
- The applicant will step on with both feet and off with both feet.
Step 2
Arm thrust x 10 (5 per arm)
- The applicant is required to thrust arm forward and strike a training bag leading with one arm and continue for 10 thrusts to complete 5 thrusts on each arm.
Step 3
Leg raise x 10 (5 per leg)
- The applicant is required to raise leg forward and strike a training bag leading with one leg and continue for 10 leg raises to complete 5 raises on each leg.
Step 4
Stand/push/sit drill (burpees) x 10
- From standing position, applicants must fall forward onto knees, lean forward onto hands, place chest on floor, putting arms out to both sides and then reverse back to standing and repeat 10 times.
Step 5
20m farmers carry (20kg each arm)
- The applicant approaches the Jerry cans with feet shoulder width apart.
- The applicant using correct lifting techniques picks up one jerry can in each hand.
- Once holding the jerry cans the applicant moves forward to a 10m marker.
- The applicant must proceed around the marker and return to the start point.
