"I’ve continued to stay in the NT throughout my 20s because of the lifestyle that I’ve been fortunate enough to have created for myself so far."

Georgios Skoufezis

Social Media Officer, Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade

"I wanted to work for the Northern Territory Public Sector because of the opportunities that lay within the variety of departments and sectors and the allure of professional development throughout my career."

Work has allowed me to become an active member in the community through the healthy work/life balance.

Social Media Officer, Georgios Skoufezis was born on the island of Rhodes in Greece and moved to the Territory with his parents in 1997. He has resided in the Top End ever since!

“I’ve continued to stay in the NT throughout my 20s because of the lifestyle that I’ve been fortunate enough to have created for myself so far. The Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS), while at times can present itself a challenging environment, also allows you to have a rewarding career path."

Working for the public sector has allowed Georgios to explore various pathways. He also credits the flexibility of the work as one of the reasons he initially applied for government.

“Working for government has allowed me to become an active member in the community with its healthy work/life balance. I am able to keep active in the evenings and also be a prominent member of the volunteer community in Darwin.”

When asked about a piece of advice he would give to someone looking to work in government Georgios advised:

“I would tell someone to be sure of themselves when applying. List all of your strengths, previous experiences and why you are seeking out the NTPS as an employment pathway. It’s also very important to have reliable referees listed and at the end of the day be confident in you!”

In reference to why he chose to stay in the Top End, Georgios expressed that the lifestyle was a key factor.

“I love how multicultural it is in Darwin, your neighbour to the left and right are often from different walks of life and that makes you appreciate your own upbringing. The more relaxed lifestyle is also something worth noting, which can differ greatly to the other places in Australia.”
