Leticia NTG Trainee

Leticia Da Costa

Trainee at the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade Business and Workforce division.

While working for NTPS, I have received extensive leave benefits diverse opportunities to move between departments and gain experience, flexible working arrangements and hour-long breaks.

Being a Trainee with NTG has given me stability and growth opportunities.

Leticia Da Costa, a proud Kungarakan Gurindji woman born and raised in Darwin, is recently immersed in the world of government through her role in the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade Business and Workforce division.

“Prior to working for NTPS, I spent a year as a Shift Manager and four years as a Crew Member at a popular fast-food chain. The toxic work environment, lack of respect from colleagues and customers pushed me to seek a change. I was determined to transition to a stable, professional and respectful workplace. I believed that entering the field of Government work would provide me with a secure future, a belief that motivated my decision to make this career move.”

Working for the Northern Territory Public Sector has provided Leticia with various benefits, notably the chance to explore different opportunities and flexible workplace arrangement.

“While working full time at the fast-food chain, I didn’t have access to comprehensive leave benefits, there was no flexibility in working arrangements, and as a shift manager I didn’t receive breaks. While working for NTPS, I have received extensive leave benefits diverse opportunities to move between departments and gain experience, flexible working arrangements and hour-long breaks.”

When asked about a piece of advice she would give to potential graduate and trainee program applicants Leticia advised. “Thoroughly research the specific job requirements and tailor your application accordingly. Ensuring your resume and cover letter highlight your experiences and abilities in alignment with the job description shows that you’ve put in effort. This can significantly improve your chances of getting noticed by the selection panel.”

Regarding her favourite aspect of living in the region, Leticia expresses her love for the close proximity to all the life necessities, her family and beaches.

“I like living in Casuarina because it is so close to everything you need – Casuarina Square, Royal Darwin Hospital, Darwin International Airport, Casuarina Beach and Charles Darwin University.”

“I stayed in the NT because my family are scattered over the Territory. It is easy to visit them when I need to and the Territory is my home.”
