Mental Health Occupational Therapist, Business Consultant and Yoga Teacher

“The Territory is an incredibly special place. You are surrounded by so many strong, inspirational people – and there is so much room to learn, grow, explore and be inspired. It’s an experience like nothing else- and it will honestly change you forever.”

“The Territory will work its magic on your heart- and change you for the better.”

Originally from Western Australia, Mia Poklepovich came to the Territory for a short contract 7 years ago, and couldn’t leave after falling in love with the weather and making friends that are still like family today!

She since works as a Mental Health Occupational Therapist (OT) , Business Consultant and Yoga Teacher in Darwin, all while running community events, joining social fitness groups, and traveling to some of the most remote and beautiful places in Australian.

“The NT has opened up so many doors and opportunities for me. It has given me a space to grow two meaningful businesses and to expand these to a life I love – and that was beyond anything I ever imagined. I feel incredibly privileged and grateful to be able to do something I love every single day!”

“I set up my first practice, OT Inspire Australia, in the Territory almost 7 years ago and my second consulting agency, The Freedom Therapist Club, in 2023.”

“I now also work as a business consultant through The Freedom Therapist Club with therapists and health practitioners in the space supporting them to set up much needed sustainable services that are supporting the community and creating long term impacts in the Territory and beyond -without the burn out!”

“Having lived both in Darwin and Alice Springs has allowed me to feel like I now have a home anywhere in the NT. The connections you make in the Territory, will become your family for life. There’s something incredibly special about the laid-back, kind energy and in particular the strong women in this place. It’s honestly like nothing else.”

“Being a young female in business can be incredibly challenging- especially working in often isolating and complex situations. But being in the Territory has allowed me to make a difference and work to support other women in the healthcare space as well- which I just love.”

“I think being able to support other females practice owners in the space inspires me every single day through seeing the impact and changes that they are making here. Some days I have no words. It also shows the magic of women supporting each other to leave a bigger impact in healthcare- and to make a difference.”

“People think outside the box in the Territory and really care so deeply about making a difference- and each other.”

“We have participated in campaigns and filming for remote health care, been invited to speak at conferences, been able to advocate in the space. And above all- learning so much from Country and culture. I am not the same person I was arriving in the NT several years ago.”

“We have also run many a community event through OT Inspire (pre-loved markets, community yoga classes and craft activities) at our space in Mparntwe or on outreach on Country. There’s such a special community feel all over the Territory.”

“I have been lucky enough to find beautiful communities at the Nightcliff Park Run and the West Mac’s Monster run down in Central Australia – which have both been so incredibly welcoming- and have that warm community feel.”

“You will always find someone to sit and have a yarn with. People are so warm and welcoming and are always happy to take the time to listen.”
