Julia Belisse, Administration and marketing officer

I always say that doing what we love is also the best way to grow in our career because we need to have a passion for what we are doing and also be happy in it.

The Territory has given me room to grow.

Brazilian administration and marketing officer, Julia Belisse was working in hospitality on the Gold Coast when she decided that she wasn’t living by her own philosophy: doing something she loved and getting paid for it.

So, she packed her bags and headed to the land of opportunity – the Northern Territory.

Julia is now settled in Darwin and waiting for her permanent resident’s visa to be granted.

She is enjoying life in the Territory’s capital city.

“I love that we have the sun out almost every day of the year,” she says. “And Darwin is on the ocean, people are always nice and chill, and there are lots of job opportunities."

“I was told that Darwin was one of the cities with a massive potential for growth and there weren’t enough qualified and skilled workers to fill the jobs available.”

Julia has a degree in social communications with a focus on the production of radio and TV commercials and programs.

She went to college six hours a day on arriving in Australia as a student and survived by working as a cleaner.

Julia later worked as a cashier, waitress, food runner and kitchen hand in restaurants for two years.

And then she had that epiphany – and a month later was on her way to a new life in Darwin.

“I always say that doing what we love is also the best way to grow in our career because we need to have a passion for what we are doing and also be happy in it."

“Never let some discouraging words take you down and remember that you are the only one who can make changes in your life, so be happy, be proud, be persistent, give your best in everything you can and treat yourself with kindness and respect."

“I hope we all can do what we love in our careers and we never will feel like we are working.”
