In the Territory I know the work I do is appreciated.

It was love at first sight.

Eric Lacroix came to Australia on a working holiday visa and had every intention of returning to France.

But he immediately fell for the Northern Territory’s lifestyle.

He has been in the Territory since 2018 and now wants to settle permanently.

Eric found that Darwin offered much more than other cities, particularly job opportunities, outdoor adventure, natural beauty and what he calls “an untouched land”.

“I also like the appreciation of people towards my work experience and how many elders are open to younger thoughts.”

The mechanical engineer says there is a far better work-life balance in Darwin, which makes for a happier people.

Eric also enjoys the multiculturalism of the Territory – there are more than 60 ethnicities and it is widely recognised that the NT is one of the happiest “melting pots” in the world, a place where people are judged on their character, not their racial background.

“There are people from so many different places, cultures and beliefs. It has made me change my view of the whole world."

“I love how small and tight-knit the community is and how open and liberating the surrounding nature feels. ”

Eric says friendship groups are usually not easy to create, but he found making friends simple in Darwin.

He enjoys the “vibe” of the city – “the lifestyle and the laid-back way” – and loves the Aboriginal culture and history.
