Aboriginal Liaison Officer

Key responsibilities

Assist NT Police to communicate effectively with members of the local community and provide information about local customs, people, places and protocols.

Assist community members to access policing services and provide information or referral to other community services where necessary.

Support sworn officers to provide an effective and a culturally appropriate policing response to the community and ensure that community concerns about crime related issues are communicated to Police.

Participate in community engagement activities and maintain contact with community leaders by participating in meetings, forums or festivals.

Assist police with relevant administrative duties.

You can, or assist that person to complete the ALO application form .

The application must also include:

  • a current resume
  • nomination of at least two referees.

What you need

Your local Police member:

  1. Should assist the applicant in completing the PF166 Criminal History Authorisation Form and email to the Community Resilience and Engagement Command. Ensure identification documents are certified by the authorised officer, along with page 2 of the document.
  2. Must talk with local Elders to ensure support for applicant to be the community ALO. A record of the conversation and support (or otherwise) must be included in the application. A template is included in the Application.

The Officer in Charge and local Police members are to email their support for the applicant to become the local ALO; and include:

  • how the ALO will be supported by local members and
  • some proposed work duties in line with ALO Job Description.
